The selection process
Teach For America seeks individuals of all backgrounds and career interests who have what it takes to excel as teachers and ultimately to exert broader societal influence in our nation. In 2009, we received the largest amount of applications in our 19 year history – more than 35,000 individuals applied to Teach For America. Because corps members face immense challenges in making a significant impact on their students' academic achievement, Teach For America is selective. We are looking for promising individuals who are ready to take on this challenging work. Given this, only 15 percent of the applicants in 2009 were accepted. Of our admitted applicants, approximately 80 percent accepted our offer and joined Teach For America.
