Recent press coverage
During the 2009-10 school year, more than 90 corps members are directly impacting the lives of nearly 6,000 students in Indianapolis. Brittany Langdon and Andy Seibert are two examples of the tremendous difference our corps members are making.
Brittany Langdon (Indianapolis Corps '08) |
Andy Seibert (Indianapolis Corps '08) |
As first-year corps members, Brittany Langdon and Andy Seibert are dedicated to providing an excellent education to all of their students. Brittany, who served as student body vice president at the University of Kentucky, currently teaches middle school reading at New Horizons School. While student body president of Butler University, Andy led college students to help children affected by the achievement gap, which ultimately compelled him to apply to the corps. He currently teaches fifth, sixth, and seventh grade English at Howe Community High School. Corps members like Brittany and Andy are working relentlessly in 15 schools across Indianapolis to give all students the academic opportunities they deserve.

Fostering Alumni Leadership for Systemic Change
As the number of corps members grows, so does our alumni base. Currently, 70 Teach For America alumni are leading efforts to effect fundamental change in the Indianapolis area.
Charlie Schlegel (Greater New Orleans Corps '92) |
Charlie Schlegel’s (Corps ‘92) two years as a Greater New Orleans corps member paved the way for his career in education. While pursuing a doctorate in education at Harvard University, Charlie helped lead Citizen Schools, an after-school program for adolescents. Charlie then served as principal of Wayland Middle School in Massachusetts. This year, Charlie moved to Indianapolis to lead the Challenge Foundation Academy, a charter school aiding in the rejuvenation of the Indianapolis community by providing students with an excellent education. Like Charlie, more than 360 alumni serve as school leaders or superintendents across the nation.
